The AD8158 uses a non-blocking switch core, with each channel containing a built-in 2:1 multiplexer and a 1:2 demultiplexer, and supports independent channel switches via four selector pins SEL [3:0]. Each port is a four-channel link. Each channel uses an asynchronous path and supports NRZ data rates from DC up to 6.5 Gbps; The passages are independent of each other. The AD8158 features low latency and extremely low channel skew characteristics.
The AD8158 is mainly used to support redundancy on the backplane side and line interface side of serial links. The demultiplexing path supports both unicast and dualcast, so the device supports 1+1 or 1:1 redundancy.
The AD8158 can copy input data and is also suitable for testing high-speed serial links. In port monitoring applications, the AD8158 can maintain link connections by using a direct connection from port C to port A, while sending a copy of data to the test device at port B.
The AD8158 offers rich functional features, which can be controlled via external switching pins or by setting on-chip control registers via the I2C® interface.
