The TPS51120 is a very sophisticated dual-current-mode synchronous step-down controller. It is a full-featured controller design that directly runs three or four Li-ion batteries and provides high power and 5-V and/or 3.3 V standby oversight of all downstream circuits of computer systems in laptops. High-current, 100 mA, 5 V or 3.3 V on-board linear regulators are faulty and can be freely switched between switching power supplies in function to maintain life independence in standby mode. Pseudo-constant frequency adaptive on-time control program supports current-mode operation, including fully simplified loop compensation, ceramic output capacitors, and seamless transition to light load conditions to reduce operating frequency.
