Der Zweck eines Pulsweitenmodulators im UCC3581-Spannungsmodus besteht darin, einen DC-Wandler für isolierte DC-Anwendungen mit geringem Stromverbrauch zu steuern, wie z. B. Teilnehmernetzspannung (ISDN I.430). Hauptsächlich in Einrohr-Vorwärts- und Flyback-Wandlern, BiCMOS-Schaltungen mit niedrigem Anlauf und Betriebsstrom verwendet, die funktionieren UCC3581, während die Frequenzen beibehalten werden, die Leistungs-MOSFETs bis zu 100 kHz antreiben können. In UCC3581 Oszillator kann die Frequenz und das maximale Tastverhältnis sowohl mit Widerständen als auch mit Kondensatoren flexibel planen. Ein TTL-Pegeleingang ist ebenfalls vorhanden, um die Synchronisation mit einer externen Frequenzquelle zu ermöglichen.

Die UCC3581 umfasst eine programmierbare Sanftanlaufschaltung, eine Überstromerkennung, einen linearen 7,5-V-Vorregler zur Steuerung des Chip-VDD während des Startvorgangs und eine Platine4.
