illustrate
The LM3658 is a single-chip charger IC designed for handheld applications. It can safely charge and maintain a single cell operated from an AC adapter or USB power polymer battery. The selection of the USB/AC source for the input power is automatic. With these two power sources, AC power currently has priority. The charging current is programmed by an AC wall with an external resistor that allows operation from 50 mA to a gigaamp charging current adapter. When the battery is charged using a USB power source, the charging current of 100 mA or 500 mA can be selected via the pins. The termination voltage is controlled at 4.2V ± 0.35%.
The LM3658 requires few external components and an integrated internal power FET, reverse current protection, and current sensing. Temperature regulation of the internal power FET to achieve the most efficient charging speed at a given ambient temperature.
The LM3658 works in five modes: prequalification mode, constant current mode, constant voltage mode, override mode and maintenance mode. In addition, the charger IC works as an "LDO mode" when the AC adapter is connected and there is no linear regulator for the battery. Get optimal battery management with thermal regulation, battery temperature measurement, and multiple safety timers. The LM3658 offers two LED status indication or connected GPIO open-drain outputs.
