The LM86 is an 11-bit 2-wire System Management Bus (SMBus) serial interface digital temperature sensor. The LM86 accurately measures its own temperature as well as the temperature of external devices such as thermal diodes of processors or transistors connected to diodes such as 2N3904. Any ASIC temperature can be accurately determined using a dedicated diode (semiconductor junction) in the target to die of the available long LM86. The LM86's remote sensor accuracy ± 0.75°C factory trimmed for the 1.008 typical non-ideal mobile Pentium III™ thermal diode factor. The LM86 has an offset register that allows continuous measurement without the need for software to manage additional diodes. When the ALERT# output is activated, any temperature rise occurs outside the high and low temperature limit registers set in the pre-programmed window or exceeds the T_CRIT temperature limit. Activate # at T_CRIT_A when the temperature exceeds T_CRIT any programming limits. The LM86's pins and registers are compatible with analog devices ADM1032 and Maxim MAX6657/8.
