The LM94 hardware monitors a two-wire digital interface that is compatible with SMBus 2.0. The LM94 using a sigma-delta ADC measures the temperature of four remote diode-connected transistors as well as their own death and 16 supply voltages. The LM94 has the new TruTherm technology that supports high-precision thermal diode measurements for processors in submicron processes.

To set the fan speed, the LM94 has PWM that is up to two outputs per 6 temperature control zones. Fan control algorithms can be based on lookup tables, PI (proportional/integral) control loops, or a combination of both. The LM94 includes a digital filter that can be called for smooth progress of better fan speeds, enabling acoustic noise to be controlled with minimal temperature readings. The LM94 has four tachometer inputs to measure fan speed. All measured value limits and status registers are also included.

After the previous motherboard server management features the LM94 base on ASICs, such as the LM93. It also adds dynamic monitoring of measurement and control with support for VRD10/11 VCCP and ^ PROCHOT. It is designed to monitor the external components of the smallest dual-processor Xeon-class motherboard.
