The LM5005 high voltage switching regulator has all the necessary functions to implement an efficient high voltage buck regulator using minimal external components. This easy-to-use regulator includes a 75V-N channel step-down switch with 2.5 amps of current output capability. The regulator is controlled using an analog current ramp according to the current mode. Current-mode control provides line-intrinsic feed-forward, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and simplified loop compensation. The sensitivity of the pulse-width modulation circuit using the analog control ramp to reduce noise allows for very small duty cycles necessary for reliable control in high input voltage applications. The operating frequency is programmable from 50kHz to 500kHz. The oscillator synchronization pin allows multiple LM5005 regulators to automatically synchronize operation or to an external clock. Other protection features include current limiting, thermal shutdown, and remote shutdown capability. Enhanced TSSOP-20 packages are available in power equipment with an exposed die bonding pad to aid in heat dissipation.
