description

® The LT 1180A/LT1181A integral charge pump dual RS232 driver/receiver pair generates the voltage level of RS232 for a single 5V supply. These circuits feature rugged bipolar designs, providing operating system fault tolerance and ESD protection unmatched by competing CMOS designs. Using only 0.1μF external capacitors, these circuits consume only 40mW of power and can operate to 120K baud rates, even with large capacitive loads. The new ESD architecture on the chip allows the LT1180A/LT1181A to survive multiple ± 10kV hits, eliminating the need for expensive TransZorbs for RS232 line pins ®. The LT1180A/LT1181A are fully EIA RS232 compliant. The driver outputs overload protection and can be short-circuited to ground or up to ± 30V without damage. In the event of a shutdown or power-down condition, the driver and receiver outputs are in a high-impedance state, allowing line sharing.

The LT1181A is available in 16-lead DIP and SO packages. The LT1180A is available in 18-lead DIP and SO packages where applications need to be closed.
