The LMV431, LMV431A and LMV431B 1.24V precision shunt regulators can be adjusted to 30V. The cathode voltage is controlled from the negative feedback adjustment pin, much like a non-inverting op amp configuration (reference symbol and function diagram). A resistor divider terminates the gain of a 1.24V bandgap reference controlled by the regulating pin. The cathode short-circuit adjustment pin (voltage follower) provides a cathode voltage of 1.24V.
With initial tolerances of 1.5%, 1% and 0.5% for the LMV431 LMV431A and LMV431B, respectively, the features are suitable for several applications that require their type of performance at low voltage Zener diodes. Applications include: 3V to 2.7V low-dropout regulators, error amplifiers in 3V off-line switching regulators, and even as a voltage detector. These parts are typically greater than 10nF and more than 50pF capacitive load stabilized.
