Fast and flexible authentication process. Multi-pass certification can be used to achieve the highest level of security, if necessary.
- The 16x8 OTP ROM can store up to three sets of 32-bit host-selectable secret additional programmable memory for storing up to 48-bit ID codes and/or packet information.
- The FlexiHash engine uses two sets of captcha to generate 32-bit secrets.
- Non-unique key mapping to 8-bit captcha maximizes the difficulty of hacking, requiring exhaustive key searches (better than SHA-1).
- A 3-cell series nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery pack supporting 1-cell Li-ion/Li-Poly (2.6V to 4.8V operation) or powered by an XSD bus.

description
The ISL6296A is a cost-effective fixed secret hashing engine, based on Intersil's FlexiHash technology. Device authentication is done through a challenge response plan, which is designed for low-cost applications where cloning without knowledge by eavesdropping on the device's secret code is not economically feasible. When used for its intended application, ISL6296A provides the same level of effectiveness as other significantly more expensive high-maintenance monetarygrade hashing algorithms and authentication schemes.
The ISL6296A has a wide operating voltage range and is suitable for direct power supply
1 cell Li-ion/Li-Poly or 3-cell series NiMH battery pack. The ISL6296A can also be powered by the XSD bus when the bus pull-up voltage is 3.3V or higher. The device connects directly to the battery terminals of the battery pack including on-chip voltage regulation circuitry, POR and one
Amorphous oscillator for bus timing reference.
Communication with the host is via a single-wire XSD interface (a lightweight subset of Intersil's ISD bus interface). The XSD bus is compatible using all 8250 compatible UART or microprocessor serial ports with a single GPIO (Universal Input and Output) pin.
Anti-cloning solutions that leverage the ISL6296A provide security and revenue protection with minimal cost and power consumption and are suitable for protecting various alternatives to low-cost applications in the aftermarket.
