The RT8802A is a 2/3/4/5-phase synchronous buck controller specifically designed for power consumption Intel®/AMD next-generation microprocessors. It implements an internal 8-bit DAC that recognizes the VID code directly to the microprocessor. RT8802A produces VID tables compliant with Intel ®VRD10. The X VRD11 core powers 6.25mV increments and 0.5% accuracy.
The RT8802A uses innovative time-sharing DCR current sensing technology to sense three-phase current balance, load line setting, and overcurrent protection of phase current. Using a common GM to sense the difference between all phase currents to eliminate offset and linear GMS in traditional current sensing methods. Since sub-milliohm inductors are widely used in modern motherboards, slight offsets and mismatches in linearity can result in considerable current shifts between phases. This technology ensures good current balance in high-volume production.
Other features include overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, programmable soft-start, and output offset setting. The RT8802A VQFN-40L 6x6 is available in a small package size.
