The Allegro™ ACS725 current sensor IC is an accurate and economical solution for AC/DC sensing in industrial, automotive, commercial, and communications systems. Small packages are ideal for applications where space is tight, and cost is reduced due to the reduced area of the board. Typical application areas include motor control, load detection and management, switching power supplies, and overcurrent fault protection.

The device features a precise, low-offset linear Hall sensor circuitry with copper conduction paths near the wafer surface. The applied current through this copper conduction path generates a magnetic field that can be sensed by the integrated Hall IC and converted into a proportional voltage. The current is sensed differentially in order to suppress the common-mode field and improve the measurement accuracy in magnetic noise environments. Optimize intrinsic device accuracy through the proximity of the magnetic field to the Hall sensor. The low-offset, chopper-stabilized BiCMOS Hall IC provides a precisely proportional voltage that is programmed for precision after packaging. The output of the device has a positive slope as the current increases through the primary copper conductor path (from pins 1 and 2 to pins 3 and 4), which is used for current sensing. The conventional internal resistance of this conduction path is 1.2mΩ, which has a low power loss.

The terminals of the conduction path are galvanically isolated from the sensor leads (pins 5-8). This allows the ACS725 current sensor to be used in high-level current sensing applications without the need for high-side differential amplifiers or other expensive isolation techniques.

The ACS725 features a small package mount, SOIC8, with a flat surface. The pin holders are 100% matte tin plated and are compatible with standard lead-free (Pb) printed circuit board assembly processes. The device is internally lead-free, with the exception of flip-chip high-temperature lead-based solder balls, which are currently RoHS exempt. The device is fully calibrated before being shipped from the factory.
