A5303 是一款带超低待机电流的低电流 BiCMOS光电烟雾探测器，可使用廉价电池供电，运行长达 10  年。该器件可与红外光室配合使用，感测烟雾微粒散发的光线。联网功能让设备实现互连，当任何设备探测到烟雾时，所有设备都能发出声音告警。设计中还整合特殊功能，促进成品探测器的协同作业和测试。

可变增益光学放大器可直接与红外发射器-探测器对交互。放大器增益水平由两个外置电容确定，并根据运行模式在内部进行选择。在待机和计时器模式中选择低增益。当发生本地告警时，该低增益将（内部）增加约 45%，以提供滞后。在按键测试或待机模式中定期监控光室敏感度时采用高增益。内置振荡器和计时电路可确保每 10 s 仅探测烟雾 100 µs ，从而大幅降低待机功耗。 此外，还整合特殊的三阶加速感测方案，以缩短发出声音告警的时间，同时减少错误触发。光室灵敏度定期予以监控，当出现两个连续的灵敏度下降周期时，将发出警告信号。
