The A1160 has a conductive coil that is close to the Hall element. When the diagnostic function is activated, these coils are energized. The energized coil generates an internal magnetic field that can be sensed by the Hall element. When diagnosing mode, the A1160 provides a square wave output, which confirms that the IC is correctly sensing the magnetic field generated inside. The diagnostic mode operates the entire electromagnetic signal path inside the IC, fully confirming its functionality. Therefore, for safety-critical applications that require redundant sensors (e.g., drive-by-wire systems), the A1160 does not require redundant sensors to increase the robustness of the application.
The A1160 Hall-effect sensor IC is extremely stable and compressive at a wide range of temperatures, especially for applications up to 150°C. Advanced dynamic offset cancellation technology ensures good performance at high temperatures, reducing residual offset voltages typically caused by device overmolding, temperature dependence, and thermal stress. The device houses the following components on a single silicon: a voltage regulator, a Hall voltage generator, a small signal amplifier, a chopper stabilizer, a Schmidt trigger, and an open-collector output that can draw up to 25 mA. The on-board regulator allows operation with a supply voltage of 3.8 to 24 V.
The A1160 is available in a 5-pin SOT23W package. The package is lead-free and features a 100% matte tin-plated pinframe.
