The A139x series of linear Hall-effect sensor integrated circuits (ICs) provide a voltage output that is directly proportional to the applied magnetic field. Before amplification, the sensitivity of a typical Hall-effect IC (measured in mV/G) is directly proportional to the current flowing through the Hall-effect sensor element inside the IC. In many applications, achieving sufficient sensitivity levels for Hall-effect sensor ICs is difficult to achieve without consuming more than 3 mA. The A139x reduces current consumption to no more than 25 μA by adding user-selectable hibernation. This makes these devices more suitable for battery-powered applications such as mobile phones, digital cameras, and portable tools. The end user can control the current draw of the A139x by applying a logic level signal to the SLEEP pin. The device output is invalid in sleep mode (high impedance mode). The high-impedance output capability allows multiple A139x Hall-effect devices to be connected to a single AC-to-DC converter input.

Based on the nominal setting, the quiescent output voltage of these devices is 50% of the proportional supply reference voltage applied to the device's VREF pin. The output voltage of the device is not proportional to the voltage of the SUPPLY pin.

Despite the low power consumption of the circuitry in the A139x, the functionality required by a high-precision linear Hall-effect IC is not compromised. Each device features a BiCMOS monolithic circuit that integrates an already improved temperature-compensated Hall-effect circuitry to reduce sensitivity drift inherent in Hall elements, small signal high-gain amplifiers, and proprietary dynamic offset cancellation circuitry. Post-package factory programming at the end of the production line ensures precise control of device sensitivity and offset.

These devices are available in 2.0 × 3.0 mm, 0.75 mm nominal height miniature pin small packages (MLP/DFN). The package is lead-free and the pin frame is 100% matte tin plated.
