The A3946 is designed for applications requiring higher power unidirectional DC engines, three-phase brushless DC motors, or other inductive loads. The A3946 offers two high-current driver outputs capable of driving N-channel MOSFETs over a wide range of power. The high-end gate driver turns on the N-channel MOSFET that controls the current to the load, while the low-end gate driver turns on the N-channel MOSFET that acts as a synchronous rectifier.

Bootstrap capacitors provide the battery supply voltage described above required by N-channel MOSFETs. The high-end internal charging pump allows semi-bridge DC (100% duty cycle) operation.

The A3946 is available in two packages: a 16-pin SOIC with two internally configured fuses for optimized power dissipation, part number suffix: LB) and a 16-pin TSSOP with exposed heatsink, suffix: LP. These are packaged in a lead-free package (suffix –T) with 100% matte tin plating on the pin frame.
