The A4933 is a three-phase controller that can be used with N-channel external power MOSFETs and is specifically designed for automotive applications.
The unique charge-pumped regulator provides a complete (>10 V) gate driver to handle battery voltages as low as 7V and allows the A4933 to operate when the gate driver voltage drops to 5.5V.
Bootstrap capacitors are used to provide the battery supply voltage described above required by N-channel MOSFETs. The high-end drive internal charge pump allows DC (100% duty cycle) operation.
The device provides full control of all six power FETs in a three-phase bridge, allowing the motor to be driven by block rectification or sinusoidal excitation. Integrated cross-control with adjustable resistive no-time keeps the power FET free from breakdown.
Bridge current can be measured using an integrated current sense amplifier. This is an unconstrained differential amplifier with an underground common-mode mode range, allowing it to be used in low-end current-sensing applications. Gain and offset are defined by external resistors.
Integrated diagnostics provide indications of undervoltage, overtemperature, and power bridge failures. They can be configured to protect power FETs in most short-circuit situations. Detailed diagnostics are available in the form of serial data words.
The A4933 is available in a 48-pin LQFP package with exposed insulation (suffix JP). This is a power package with a small footprint (81mm²). The packages are lead-free and the pin frames are 100% matte tin plated.
