The A4935 is a three-phase controller that can be used with N-channel external power MOSFETs specifically for automotive applications.
The unique charge-pumped regulator provides a complete (>10 V) gate driver to handle battery voltages as low as 7 V and allows the A4935 to operate when the gate driver voltage drops to 5.5 V.
Bootstrap capacitors are used to provide the battery supply voltage described above required by N-channel MOSFETs. The high-end drive internal charge pump allows DC (100% duty cycle) operation.
The device provides full control of all six power FETs in a three-phase bridge, allowing the motor to be driven by block rectification or sinusoidal excitation. Integrated cross-control with adjustable resistive no-time keeps the power FET free from breakdown.
Bridge current can be measured using an integrated current sense amplifier. This is an unconstrained differential amplifier with an underground common-mode mode range, allowing it to be used in low-end current-sensing applications. Gain and offset are defined by external resistors.
Integrated diagnostics provide undervoltage, over-temperature, and power bridge failures. They can be configured to protect power FETs in most short-circuit situations. Detailed diagnostics are available in the form of serial data words.
The A4935 is available in a 48-pin LQFP package with an exposed insulator (suffix JP). This is a power package with a small footprint (81 mm2). The packages are lead-free and the pin frames are 100% matte tin plated.
