• Product Introduction

The A5303 is a low-current BiCMOS photosmoke detector with ultra-low standby current that can be operated on inexpensive batteries for up to 10 years. The device can be used in conjunction with an infrared light chamber to sense light emitted by smoke particles. The networking feature allows devices to be interconnected, and when any device detects smoke, all devices can send out an audible alarm. Special features are also integrated into the design to facilitate the collaborative operation and testing of the finished detector.

The variable gain optical amplifier interacts directly with the IR emitter-detector pair. The amplifier gain level is determined by two external capacitors and is selected internally based on the operating mode. Select Low Gain in Standby and Timer modes. When a local alarm occurs, this low gain will be (internally) increased by about 45% to provide a lag. High gain is used when the light chamber sensitivity is regularly monitored during key tests or standby mode. The built-in oscillator and timing circuitry ensures that only 100 μs of smoke is detected every 10 seconds, significantly reducing standby power consumption. In addition, a special third-order acceleration sensing scheme is integrated to shorten the time it takes to issue an audible alarm while reducing false triggering. The optical chamber sensitivity is monitored periodically and a warning signal is issued when there are two consecutive cycles of sensitivity drop.
