The A8510 is a multi-output white LED driver for LCD backlighting. It integrates a current-mode boost converter with an internal power switch and eight current draw-in devices. The boost converter can drive up to 96 LEDs for a total of 40 mA per string of 12 LEDs. LED sink currents can be connected in parallel to achieve higher LED currents up to 320 mA. The A8510 can operate from a single supply from 5 to 40 V.
In the event of a fault, the A8510 can drive an external P-FET to disconnect the system's input power. The A8510 provides protection including output short-circuit and over-voltage protection, secondary open-circuit or short-circuit protection, LED pin open-circuit or short-circuit protection, and overheating protection. The two-stage wave-by-wave current limiting feature provides soft start and protection against high current overloads in the internal current switch.
The A8510 can synchronize PWM switching frequencies from 600 kHz to 2.25 MHz via the sync pin.
The unit is available in a 26-contact, 4 mm× 4 mm, 0.75 mm nominal total height QFN package with an exposed heatsink for enhanced thermal functionality. It is packaged as a lead-free product and features a 100% matte tin plated pin frame.
