• Product Introduction

The A8511 is a multi-output WLED/RGB driver designed for mid-size display backlighting. It is a fully integrated high-brightness (HB) LED driver solution that meets backlight design standards without the need for an external power supply device. The A8511 integrates a FET for a boost converter and four 150 mA current converters to provide a complete comprehensive solution at the HB LED current level. The LED channels can be combined with each other to support up to 600mA current drawing capability. The device can operate from a single supply from 6.8 to 21 V and can withstand voltages up to 40 V. This boost converter is a constant frequency, current type converter.

The operating frequency can be set to 2 MHz to avoid interference from the AM band. The integrated boost DMOS switch is rated at 40 V at 3.6 A. The PWM light and dark control feature enables LED current control with a ratio of up to 1000:1. Additional 4:1 light and dark control is available by using the DIM pin.　

The A8511 provides output connector short-circuit protection with an integrated output disconnect switch. An optional external thermistor can be used to limit the LED current based on the panel temperature.

The device is available in a surface-mount, 28-pin TSSOP package (suffix LP) with an exposed heatsink for enhanced heat dissipation. The package is lead-free and the pin frame is 100% matte tin plated.
