A8586It is a high frequency step-down switching regulator with integrated high-side power MOSFETs. The regulator delivers up to 3.5 A of output current. The A8586 can achieve fast transient response using current mode control and simple external compensation.

The wide input voltage range of 3.8 V to 36 V makes the A8586 suitable for a wide range of step-down applications, including those in automotive input environments. The low operating steady-state current of 30 μA facilitates battery-driven applications.

A8586Pulse frequency modulation (PFM) is used when the load is reduced to maintain high frequencies over a wide load range. This, in turn, reduces switching and gate drive losses at small loads. A8586-1 and A8586-2 are options to disable the PFM feature. The A8586-1 also disables jitter. These features are helpful for applications that require low output ripple and minimum output capacitance.

Frequency flyback helps prevent runaway of inductor current during start-up and provides enhanced dropout performance. The A8586's extensive protection features include pulse-by-pulse current limit, hiccup mode short-circuit protection, open/short-circuit freewheeling diode protection, BOOT open/short-circuit voltage protection, VIN undervoltage lockout, and thermal shutdown.

The A8586 and A8586-2 benefit EMC/EMI designs with frequency jitter, soft shutdown of freewheeling diodes, and well-controlled switch node slew rates. The 4 MHz oscillator allows the A8586 to switch outside EMI-sensitive bands such as AM or ADSL.

The A8586 is available in the industry standard DFN10 or SOIC8 package.
