Allegro®ACS709Current sensorICs provide cost-effective, accurate solutions for current sensing applications in industrial, automotive, commercial, and communications systems. The device is available in a small surface-mount package that makes it easy to implement in customer applications.

The ACS709 features an accurate linear Hall sensor IC with a copper current path close to the surface of the silicon wafer. The impressed current flows through the copper current path, while the analog output voltage of the Hall sensor IC linearly tracks the magnetic field generated by the applied current. The accuracy of the ACS709 is further enhanced by this patented package configuration because the Hall element is positioned very close to the current to be measured.

Allegro's unique integrated screen technology enables high tolerance to current conductor dV/dt signals and stray electric fields, ensuring low output voltage ripple and low bias drift in high-end applications.

The overcurrent input (VOC pin) voltage allows the customer to set an overcurrent fault threshold for the device. When the current flowing through the copper current path (between the IP+ and IP– pins) exceeds this threshold, the open-drain overcurrent fault pin transitions to a logic low state. The ACS709's internal linear Hall sensor IC is factory programmed to achieve highly accurate analog and digital output signals.

A typical copper path internal resistance for current sensing is 1.1 mΩ with minimal power loss. Furthermore, the current path is galvanically isolated from the inputs and outputs of the low-voltage device. This allows the ACS709 family of sensor ICs to be used in applications that require galvanic isolation without the use of optoisolators or other expensive isolation techniques.
