Allegro™ ACS717Current sensorICs are economical solutions for high isolation voltages for AC/DC sensing in industrial, commercial, and communications systems. While the wide-body construction provides the creepage and clearance required for high isolation voltages, the small package is ideal for applications where space is at a premium. Typical application areas include motor control, load detection and management, switching power supplies, and overcurrent fault protection.

The device features a precise, low-offset linear Hall sensor circuit with a copper conduction path near the die surface. The applied current through this copper conduction path generates a magnetic field that can be induced by the integrated Hall IC and converted into a proportional voltage. Device accuracy is optimized by the proximity of the magnetic field to the Hall sensor. The low-offset, chopper-stabilized BiCMOS Hall IC provides a ratiometric voltage and is also programmed accurately after packaging. The output of the device has a positive slope when the current increases through the primary copper conductor path (from pins 1-4 to pins 5-8), which is used for current sensing. This conduction path has a typical internal resistance of 0.85mΩ and low power loss.

The terminals of the conduction path are galvanically isolated from the sensor leads (pins 10-15). This allows the ACS717 current sensor to be used in high-level current sensing applications without the need for high-side differential amplifiers or other expensive isolation techniques.

The ACS717 is available in a small package mount SOICW16 (suffix MA) with a flat surface. The device is Pb-free and features 100% matte tin plating. The device is fully calibrated before shipment at the factory.
