The Allegro™ ACS717 current sensor IC is an economical solution for high isolation voltage sensing for AC/DC sensing in industrial, commercial, and communications systems. While wide-body structures provide the creepage and electrical clearance required for high isolation voltages, small packages are ideal for applications with limited space. Typical application areas include motor control, load detection and management, switching power supplies, and overcurrent fault protection.

The device features a precise, low-offset linear Hall sensor circuitry with copper conduction paths near the wafer surface. The applied current through this copper conduction path generates a magnetic field that can be sensed by the integrated Hall IC and converted into a proportional voltage. Optimize device accuracy by the proximity of the magnetic field to the Hall sensor. The low-offset, chopper-stabilized BiCMOS Hall IC provides a proportional voltage that is programmed for accuracy after packaging. The output of the device has a positive slope as the current increases through a primary copper conductor path (from pins 1-4 to pins 5 -8), which is used for current sensing. The conventional internal resistance of this conduction path is 0.85mΩ, which has a low power loss.

The terminals of the conduction path are galvanically isolated from the sensor leads (pins 10-15). This allows the ACS717 current sensor to be used in high-level current sensing applications without the need for high-side differential amplifiers or other expensive isolation techniques.

The ACS717 features a small package mount SOICW16 (suffix MA) with a flat surface. The device is lead-free and 100% matte tin plated. The device is fully calibrated before being shipped from the factory.
