The AD557 DACPORT® is a complete voltage output 8-bit digital-to-analog converter that integrates an output amplifier, a full microprocessor interface, and a precision voltage reference on a single chip. No external components or adjustments are required to interface the 8-bit data bus to the analog system with full accuracy.
The low cost and versatility of the AD557 DACPORT are the result of the continued development of monolithic bipolar technology.
The complete microprocessor interface and control logic is implemented using integrated injection logic (I2L), an extremely high-density, low-power logic structure compatible with linear bipolar manufacturing processes. The internal precision reference is a patented, low-voltage bandgap circuit that achieves full accuracy performance from a single +5 V supply. Thin-film silicon-chromium resistors provide the stability required for monotonic operation over the full operating temperature range, and laser wafer trimming of these thin-film resistors allows for factory absolute calibration within ±2.5 LSB, eliminating the need for gain or offset voltage adjustment. The new circuit design enables voltages to reach ±1/2 LSB accuracy (full-scale steps) in 800 ns.
The AD557 is available in two package configurations. The AD557JN is available in a 16-lead plastic, 0.3" wide DIP package. The AD557JP is suitable for surface mount applications and is available in a 20-lead JEDEC standard PLCC package. Both devices operate over the 0°C to +70°C temperature range.
