The AD5678 is a low-power, eight-channel, buffered voltage output DAC that integrates four 12-bit DACs and four 16-bit DACs in a single package that operates from a single 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply to ensure monotonicity through design.
The AD5678 has a built-in on-chip voltage reference with an internal gain of 2. The AD5678-1 has a built-in 1.25 V, 5 ppm/°C reference with a full-scale output of 2.5 V; The AD5678-2 has a built-in 2.5 V, 5 ppm/°C reference with a full-scale output of 5 V. When powered on, the on-chip reference is turned off, allowing the use of an external reference. The internal voltage reference is enabled via software write.
The device has a built-in power-on reset circuit that ensures that the DAC outputs to 0 V when powered on and maintains that level until a valid write operation is performed. It also features independent shutdown for each channel, reducing the device's power consumption to 400 nA at 5 V in shutdown mode and providing a software-selectable output load.
The LDAC function allows all DAC outputs to be updated at the same time, and users can also select the DAC channels to be updated at the same time. There is also an asynchronous CLR function that can clear all DACs to a software selection: 0 V, intermediate level, or full scale.
The AD5678 features a versatile three-wire serial interface that can operate at clock rates up to 50 MHz and is compatible with standard SPI®, QSPI™, MICROWIRE™, and DSP interface standards. It has a built-in on-chip precision output amplifier that enables rail-to-rail output swing.
