The AD587 represents a significant advancement in the field of advanced single-chip reference voltage sources. It utilizes a proprietary ion implantation embedded Zener diode and laser wafer adjustment of highly stable thin-film resistors, allowing it to deliver excellent performance at a lower cost.
The AD587 performs significantly better than most other 10 V references. It uses industry-standard pinouts, so many systems can be quickly upgraded with the AD587.
The reference design uses an embedded Zener method, which makes noise and drift lower than the bandgap reference. The device also provides noise reduction pins to further reduce the noise level generated by the embedded Zener diode.
The AD587 is recommended as a reference for 8-, 10-, 12-, 14-, or 16-bit DACs that require an external precision reference source. The device is also ideal for successive approximations or integrated ADCs with up to 14-bit accuracy, and typically outperforms standard on-chip references.
The AD587J and AD587K are rated for operating temperatures ranging from 0°C to 70°C, and the AD587U is rated for −55°C to +125°C. AD587JQ and AD587UQ are available in an 8-pin CERDIP package, while other models are available in an 8-pin SOIC package (for surface-mount applications) or an 8-pin PDIP package.
