The AD5881 represents a significant advancement in the field of advanced single-chip voltage references. The device features low initial error and low temperature drift, resulting in unprecedented single-chip absolute accuracy performance. It utilizes a proprietary ion-implanted Zener diode and laser wafer drift adjustment for highly stable thin-film resistors, allowing it to deliver excellent performance.
The AD588 has a built-in base reference and three additional amplifiers that provide a pin-programmable output range. These amplifiers are laser-tuned with low offset and low drift characteristics to maintain the accuracy of the reference source. The amplifier configuration allows for Kelvin connections with loads and/or boosters to drive long lines or high-current loads, providing all the AD588 accuracy required for the application circuit.
The AD588's low initial error makes it suitable for use as a system reference for precision measurement applications requiring 12-bit absolute accuracy. In such a system, the AD588 can provide a known voltage for system calibration through software, and the low drift feature compensates for drift from other devices in the system. As a result, manual system calibration is eliminated and the cost of regular recalibration is eliminated. In addition, the AD588 can be used in conjunction with automatic calibration software to eliminate mechanical instability and improper calibration of the adjustment potentiometer.
The AD588 is available in seven models. The AD588JQ and AD588KQ are available in a 16-pin CERDIP package and are rated for an operating temperature range of 0°C to +70°C. The AD588AQ and AD588BQ are available in a 16-pin CERDIP package and the AD588ARWZ are available in a 16-pin SOIC package, both rated for an operating temperature range of −25°C to +85°C industrial temperatures. Ceramic packages are rated for AD588TE and AD588TQ over a full military/aerospace temperature range.
