The AD7111/™ AD7111A are monolithic multiplicationsDigital-to-analog converters(DAC) with wide dynamic range in a small package. Both DACs attenuate analog input signals in 0.375 dB steps from 0 dB to 88.5 dB. Both are available in 16-lead DIP and SOIC packages, and the AD7111 is also available in a 20-lead LCCC package.
The degree of attenuation on the DAC is determined by the 8-bit word acting on the on-chip decoding logic. The 8-bit word is decoded into a 17-bit word and then applied to a 17-bit R-2R ladder resistor. The precision step resolution is achieved with this 17-bit DAC and can be used over the entire dynamic range.
The AD7111/AD7111A interface to a standard 8-bit MPU bus is easily implemented through an 8-bit data port and standard microprocessor control lines. The AD7111 WR input is edge-triggered, requiring new data to be loaded into the DAC on the rising edge. The AD7111A WR input is level triggered, allowing transparent operation of the latches when required. It should also be noted that the AD7111A is pin-and-function compatible with the AD7524, the industry-standard 8-bit multiplying DAC, making it easy to upgrade existing AD7524 designs to gain the benefits of wider dynamic range and smaller step resolution offered by the AD7111A.
The AD7111/AD7111A are linearly compatible with CMOS (LC).2MOS Process Manufacturing, an advanced hybrid process technology that combines sophisticated bipolar circuitry with low-power CMOS logic.
