The LOGDAC™ AD7111/AD7111A are single-chip multiplicative digital-to-analog converters (DACs) with wide dynamic range in a small form factor. Both DACs are capable of attenuating analog input signals from 0 dB to 88.5 dB in 0.375 dB steps. Both are available in 16-pin DIP and SOIC packages, and the AD7111 is also available in a 20-pin LCCC package.
The degree of attenuation on the DAC is determined by the 8-bit word acting on the on-chip decoding logic. This 8-bit character is first decoded into a 17-bit word, which is then applied to a 17-bit R-2R keystone resistor. The precise step resolution is achieved using this 17-bit DAC, which can be used over the entire dynamic range.
With an 8-bit data port and standard microprocessor control line, the AD7111/AD7111A easily interfaces with standard 8-bit MPU buses. The AD7111 WR input is edge-triggered, requiring new data to be loaded into the DAC at the rising edge. AD7111A WR input is level-triggered, allowing transparent operation of the latch when needed. It should also be noted that AD7111A is fully compatible with the pins and functions of the industry-standard 8-bit multiplication DAC AD7524, making it easy to upgrade existing AD7524 designs to take advantage of the wider dynamic range and smaller step resolution AD7111A provides.
The AD7111/AD7111A is manufactured using a linear-compatible CMOS (LC2MOS process), an advanced hybrid process technology that combines sophisticated bipolar circuitry with low-power CMOS logic.
