The AD7124-4 is a low-power, low-noise, complete analog front-end for high-precision measurement applications. The device has a built-in low-noise 24-bit sigma-delta analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that can be configured to provide 4 differential inputs or 7 single-ended or pseudo-differential inputs. The low on-chip gain stage ensures that small signals can be directly input into the ADC.
One of the key advantages of the AD7124-4 is the flexibility to use three integrated power modes. Power consumption, output data rate range, and RMS noise can be customized with the selected power mode. The device also offers multiple filter options, ensuring maximum flexibility for users.
At an output data rate of 25 SPS (single-cycle settling), the AD7124-4 achieves simultaneous rejection of 50 Hz and 60 Hz, and achieves rejection performance of more than 80 dB at lower output data rates.
The AD7124-4 provides the highest signal chain integration. The device has a precision low-noise, low-drift internal bandgap reference or an internally buffered external differential reference. Other key integrated features include a programmable low-drift excitation current source, fusing current, and a bias voltage generator that allows the common-mode voltage of a channel to be set to AVDD/2. The low-end power switch allows the user to shut down the bridge sensor between conversions, guaranteeing absolute minimum power consumption in the system. The device also allows users to work with either an internal or external clock.
The built-in channel sequencer enables multiple channels simultaneously, and the AD7124-4 performs conversions on each enable channel in sequence, simplifying communication with the device. Up to 16 channels are ready to enable with analog inputs or diagnostic functions (such as power check or reference check). This unique feature allows the diagnostic functions to alternate.
The AD7124-4 also supports individual channel configurations. The device supports eight configurations or settings. Each configuration includes gain, filter type, output data rate, buffer, and reference source. Users can assign any setting on each channel.
The AD7124-4 also integrates rich diagnostic capabilities as part of a comprehensive feature portfolio. These diagnostic functions include cyclic redundancy check (CRC), signal chain check, and serial interface check, providing a more robust solution. These diagnostic functions reduce the external components required to perform diagnostic functions, reducing the need for board space, reducing design time and saving costs. According to IEC 61508, the Failure Mode Impact and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) Safety Failure Failure Rate (SFF) is greater than 90% for typical applications.
The device operates from a 2.7 V to 3.6 V single analog supply or a 1.8 V dual supply. The digital power supply range is 1.65 V to 3.6 V. The devices are rated for a temperature range of −40°C to +105°C. The AD7124-4 is available in either a 32-pin LFCSP package or a 24-pin TSSOP package.
Note that throughout the datasheet, multi-function pins (such as DOUT/RDY) are represented by the entire pin name or the individual function of the pin; For example, RDY means that it is only relevant for this function.
