The AD7148 is designed to be used with capacitive sensors to implement functions such as buttons, scroll bars, and scroll wheels. These sensor applications require only a single-layer board design, enabling ultra-thin applications.
The AD7148 is a highly integrated capacitive-to-digital converter (CDC) with built-in environmental calibration. The capacitive-to-digital converter has 8 inputs and is connected to a 16-bit, 250 kHz∑-Δ converter via a switching array. Capacitive-to-digital converters detect changes in the capacitance of external sensors and use this information to record sensor triggers. External sensors can include a series of buttons, scroll bars, scroll wheels, or a combination of these sensors. By programming the registers, the user has full control over the settings of the capacitor-to-digital converter.
High-resolution sensors require less software to run on the main processor
The AD7148 is designed for single-electrode capacitive sensors (ground sensors). It has an active shielded output that minimizes the noise introduced into the sensor. For floating or two-electrode sensors, the AD7143 is recommended.
The AD7148 has built-in calibration logic circuitry to compensate for changes in the surrounding environment. When there is no contact sensor, the calibration is carried out automatically and continuously, which will ensure that the external sensor does not cause errors or missing triggers due to environmental changes.
The AD7148 has an I2C-compatible serial interface and interrupt output. The VDRIVE pin is used to set the serial interface level and is independent of VCC.
The AD7148 is available in a 4 mm x 4 mm 16-pin LFCSP_VQ package and operates from a voltage range of 2.6 V ~ 3.6 V. In low-power mode, the operating current is 26 μA.
