The device provides dual buffered interface logic with a 14-bit input latch and a 14-bit DAC latch. Data is loaded into the input latch in parallel or serial mode. This data is then transmitted to the DAC latch under the control of the asynchronous LDAC signal. Due to its fast data establishment time (21 ns), it can interface directly in parallel with digital signal processors and high-speed 16-bit microprocessors. In serial mode, the maximum serial data clock rate can be up to 6 MHz.
The analog output of the AD7840 provides a ±3V bipolar output range. In addition, dynamic performance parameters such as signal-to-noise ratio and harmonic distortion, as well as traditional DC specifications, are also specified in detail. It can generate a full-power output signal of up to 20 kHz.
The AD7840 is manufactured using the linear-compatible CMOS (LC2MOS process), an advanced hybrid process technology that combines sophisticated bipolar circuitry with low-power CMOS logic. The device is available in two packages: a 24-pin molded DIP package and a 28-pin PLCC package.
