The AD8159 is a protocol-independent, asynchronous, quad 2:1 switch with 12 differential PECL/CML compatible inputs and 12 differential CML outputs. It is optimized for NRZ signaling with data rates up to 3.2 Gbps per lane. Each channel provides 2 levels of input equalization and 4 levels of output pre-emphasis.
The AD8159 contains four multiplexers and four demultiplexers, one per channel. Each port is a quad-channel link, and each channel operates at a data rate of up to 3.2 Gbps, independent of each other. These channels utilize four select pins SEL [3:0]Independent switch; Each select pin controls one channel of the port.AD8159Features low latency and very low channel-to-channel skew.
The AD8159 is primarily used to support backplane and line interface side redundancy of serial links. The device has unicast and bicast capabilities, so it can be configured to support 1+1 or 1:1 redundancy.
The AD8159 allows the output and input pins on one port to be reversed, which helps connect two ASICs with opposite pinouts.
The device can also be used to test high-speed serial links by copying input data and sending it to both the destination port and the test equipment.
