The AD8159 has four multiplexers and four demultiplexers, each channel in a group. Each port is a four-channel link, operating at a maximum data rate of 3.2 Gbps, with each channel independent of each other. These channels use four selective pins with SEL [3:0] independent switches; Each selected pin controls a single channel for the port. The AD8159 features low latency and extremely low channel skew characteristics.
The AD8159 is mainly used to support redundancy on the backplane side and line interface side of serial links. The device supports both unicast and dual cast, allowing it to be configured to support 1+1 or 1:1 redundancy.
The AD8159 allows the output and input pins on a single port to be inverted, which helps connect two ASICs with opposite pin arrangements.
By copying input data and then sending it simultaneously to both the destination port and the test device, the device can also be used to test high-speed serial links.
