The AD8420 is a low-cost, wide-supply voltage range amplifier that uses two resistors to set the gain to any value between 1 and 1000. The device is optimized to amplify small differential voltages in the presence of large common-mode signals.
The AD8420 is based on a current-mode architecture with excellent input common-mode range. Unlike conventional instrumentation amplifiers, the AD8420 can easily amplify signals equal to or slightly below ground voltage without the need for dual power supplies. The AD8420 has a full-range rail-to-rail output that is completely independent of the input common-mode voltage.
The AD8420 can be powered from both a single and dual power supply. The device is ideal for portable systems with a limited single supply and systems powered by larger dual supplies. The gain is set by the ratio of the two resistors. The user can use the reference pin to offset the output voltage, which is useful when the output signal needs to be centered on a specific voltage, such as an intermediate supply voltage.
The AD8420 is available in an 8-pin MSOP package and is rated for performance over a temperature range of −40°C to +85°C and a device operating temperature range of −40°C to +125°C.
