The AD8522 is a complete dual, 12-bit, single-supply, voltage output DAC available in a 14-lead DIP or SO-14 surface mount package. It is manufactured on a CBCMOS process and includes a serial digital interface, on-chip reference, and buffered voltage output. Ideal for systems with only +5 V supplies, this single-chip device features low cost and ease of use, requiring no external components to achieve full performance.
The serial digital interface uses a simple high-speed, 3-wire data, clock, and load strobe format to interface directly with many microcontroller ports. The 16-bit serial word contains a 12-bit data word and DAC select address, which can be decoded internally or externally with the input. When the serial data output is used in conjunction with the chip select input, the user can easily daisy-chain multiple devices. Resetting the RS input sets the output to zero-scale or midscale, depending on the input MSB.
The full-scale output is 4.095 V, laser-trimmed to maintain accuracy over the entire operating temperature range of the device, and provides easy-to-use 1 mV resolution per bit. The 2.5 V reference output is also available for external use, such as for other data acquisition circuits and ratiometric applications. The output buffer is capable of driving ±5 mA.
The AD8522 is available in 14-lead plastic DIP and 1.5 mm, low profile SOIC-14 packages.
