The AD9760 and AD9760-50 are both 10-bit resolution products of the TxDAC family of high-performance, low-power CMOS digital-to-analog converters (DACs). The AD9760-50 is a relatively low-performance model with a guaranteed sample rate of 50 MSPS. The TxDAC series consists of pin-compatible 8, 10, 12, and 14-bit DACs optimized for the transmit signal path of communication systems. All devices use the same interface options, small packages, and pinouts, allowing for the right device selection up or down based on performance, resolution, and cost. Both the AD9760 and AD9760-50 offer excellent AC and DC performance while supporting update rates of up to 125 MSPS and 60 MSPS, respectively.
The AD9760 features a flexible single-supply operating voltage range (2.7 V to 5.5 V) and low power consumption, making it ideal for portable and low-power applications. By reducing the full-scale current output, power consumption can be further reduced to just 45 mW without significant performance degradation. In addition, standby power consumption can be reduced to about 25 mW in power-saving mode.
The AD9760 is manufactured using an advanced CMOS process. The segmented current source architecture combined with proprietary switching technology reduces stray components and enhances dynamic performance. The device also integrates an edge-triggered input latch and a 1.2 V temperature-compensated bandgap reference to provide a complete single-chip DAC solution. Flexible power options support +3 V and +5 V CMOS logic families.
The AD9760 is a current output DAC with a nominal full-scale output current of 20 mA and an output impedance greater than 100 kΩ. It provides differential current output to support single-ended or differential applications. Matching between the two current outputs ensures enhanced dynamic performance in differential output configurations. The current output can be connected directly to an output resistor to provide two complementary single-ended voltage outputs or fed directly into the transformer. Compatible output voltages range from 1.25 V.
The on-chip reference and control amplifier are configured for maximum accuracy and flexibility. The AD9760 can be driven by an on-chip reference or by a variety of different external references. The internal control amplifier provides a wide (>10:1) regulation range, allowing the AD9760's full-scale current to be adjusted from 2 mA to 20 mA while maintaining excellent dynamic performance. As a result, the AD9760 is able to operate at low power levels or regulate over the 20 dB range, further providing gain range adjustment capabilities.
The AD9760 is available in a 28-pin SOIC package and is rated for industrial temperatures.
