The device uses Analog Devices' iCoupler® technology, which integrates a three-channel isolator and CAN transceiver in a single package. The logic of the device is powered from a single 3.3 V or 5 V supply on VDD1 and a single 5 V supply on VDD2 on the bus. The loss of power at the bus end (VDD2) can be detected by the integrated VDD2SENSE signal.
ADM3054 creates an isolated interface between the CAN protocol controller and the physical layer bus, which can operate at data rates up to 1Mbps.
The device's bus pins (CANH and CANL) have integrated protection against shorting to power or ground in a 24 V system.
The device features current limiting and thermal shutdown to prevent output shorts and bus shorts to ground or power pins. The temperature range is rated for the industrial temperature range and is available in a 16-pin, wide-body SOIC package.
