The ADP2121 is a high frequency, low quiescent current,
Step-down DC-DC converterOptimized for portable applications where board area and battery life are critical. The fixed operating frequency of 6 MHz allows the device to use small ceramic inductors and capacitors. In addition, synchronous rectification improves efficiency and reduces the number of external components. At heavy load currents, the ADP2121 maintains a constant frequency in regulated pulse-width modulation (PWM) mode and provides excellent stability and transient response. Under light load conditions, the ADP2121 automatically enters power-down mode, utilizes pulse frequency modulation (PFM) to reduce the effective switching frequency, and ensures extended battery life in portable applications.
The ADP2121 has an input voltage range of 2.3 V to 5.5 V and can be used with single-cell Li+/Li-polymer batteries, multi-cell alkaline/NiMH batteries, PCMCIA, and other standard power supplies. The ADP2121 requires only three external components with fixed output voltages of 1.80 V, 1.82 V, 1.85 V, and 1.875 V and source currents up to 500 mA. Other key features include undervoltage lockout (UVLO) to prevent deep battery discharge; Soft start prevents input current overshoot at startup. During logic control shutdown, the input and output are disconnected with less than 0.28 μA of source current.
