iCoupler devices do not use LEDs and photodiodes, so there are no design difficulties typically associated with optocouplers. The simple iCoupler digital interface and robust performance characteristics eliminate the current transfer ratio uncertainty, nonlinear transfer functions, and temperature and lifetime effects that optocouplers typically have. These iCoupler products do not require external drivers and other discrete devices. In addition, the iCoupler device consumes only 1/10 to 1/6 the power of an optocoupler at a comparable signal data rate.
The ADuM141x isolator provides four independent isolation channels that support multiple channel configurations and data rates up to 10 Mbps (see Ordering Guide). All models operate from a 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply voltage, are compatible with low-voltage systems, and are capable of voltage conversion across isolation barriers. All products have default output control pins. This pin allows users to define the logical state of the output when there is no input power. Unlike other optocouplers, the ADuM141x isolator features a patented refresh feature that ensures DC correctness during input logic conversion and power-up/shutdown.
