A8583is an adjustable frequency, high output current PWM regulator that incorporates low resistance, high-side, N-channel MOSFETs. The A8583 integrates current-mode control to provide simple compensation, excellent loop stability, and fast transient response. The A8583 utilizes external compensation to be compatible with a wide range of power components to optimize transient response without compromising stability.

The A8583 adjusts input voltages from 4.7 to 36 V, providing output voltages as low as 0.8 V and load currents of at least 3.5 A. Features of the A8583 include an externally adjustable switching frequency, an externally set soft-start time to minimize inrush current, an EN/SYNC input that enables VOUT and/or synchronous PWM switching frequency, and a power supply good (POK) output that indicates VOUT is within regulation. The A8583 turns on the low-side FETs to charge the boost capacitor only when needed, rather than every PWM cycle. This improves light load efficiency and provides no-load current as low as 3.5 mA at 2 MHz. The A8583 control circuit draws less than 3 μA in sleep mode.

Protection features include VIN undervoltage lockout (UVLO), pulse-by-pulse overcurrent protection (OCP), hiccup mode short-circuit protection (HIC), overvoltage protection (OVP), and thermal shutdown (TSD). In addition, the A8583 offers unique diode (D1) loss protection, open- and adjacent pin short-circuit protection, and short-to-ground protection on each pin to meet the most demanding applications.

A8583Available in a 16-pin TSSOP package with exposed heatsink for enhanced cooling. The package is lead-free and features 100% matte tin leadframe plating.
