• Product Introduction

The A8586 is a high-frequency buck-switching regulator with an integrated high-level side power MOSFET. The regulator provides up to 3.5 A output current. The A8586 can utilize current pattern control and simple external compensation for fast transient response.

The A8586's wide input voltage range of 3.8 V to 36 V makes it suitable for a wide range of step-down applications, including applications in automotive input environments. The low operating steady-state current of 30 μA is beneficial for battery-powered applications.

The A8586 uses pulse frequency modulation (PFM) when the load is reduced, which maintains high frequencies over a wide load range. This, in turn, reduces switching and gate drive losses at small loads. A8586-1 and A8586-2 are options to disable PFM functionality. The A8586-1 also disables the jitter function. These features are helpful for applications that require low output ripple and minimal output capacitance.

Frequency sweep backs help prevent runaway inductor current runaway during start-up and provide enhanced differential pressure performance. The A8586's extensive protection features include pulse-by-pulse current limiting, hiccup mode short-circuit protection, open/short-freewheeling diode protection, BOOT open/short-circuit voltage protection, VIN undervoltage lockout, and overtemperature shutdown.

The A8586 and A8586-2 feature frequency jitter, freewheeling diode soft-shutdown, and well-controlled switching node slew rates for EMC/EMI designs. The 4 MHz oscillator allows the A8586 to switch outside of EMI-sensitive frequency bands such as AM or ADSL bands.

The A8586 is available in industry-standard DFN10 or SOIC8 packages.
