• Product Introduction

The A8589 is designed to power the next generation of automotive audio and infotainment systems, providing the full range of control and protection circuitry for the production of high-current regulators with ±1.0% output voltage accuracy. The A8589 uses pulse frequency modulation (PFM) to obtain less than 50 A from 12 VμIN, while simultaneously outputting 3.3 V/40 μA. After booting, the A8589 runs to at least 3.6 VIN (VIN continues to drop).

The A8589's performance includes PWM/PFMn mode control inputs with PWM (Logic Advanced) or PFM (Logic Low) enabled. If the PWM/PFMn input is driven by an external clock signal (fOSC) above the base frequency, the PWM frequency will be synchronized with the input clock frequency. The SLEEPn input pin controls a very low current cut-off mode with less than 5 μA for internal circuitry and 10 μA (max) for MOSFET pressure-drapage at 16 VIN at 85ºC. The A8589 has external compensation to accommodate a wide range of frequencies and external components, and provides an output voltage-verified power-on reset (NPOR) signal.

The A8589's wide range of protection features includes pulse-by-pulse current limiting, burp mode short-circuit protection, on/short asynchronous diode protection, BOOT on/short voltage protection, VIN undervoltage lockout, VOUT overvoltage protection, and thermal shutdown.

The A8589 is powered in a low-profile 16-pin TSSOP package with an exposed power strip (suffix LP). The package is lead-free (Pb) and the pin frame is 100% matte tin plated.
