• Product Introduction

The A8650 is an adjustable-frequency, high-output current PWM regulator that integrates a high-end P-channel MOSFET with a low-end N-channel MOSFET. The A8650 integrates current-mode control to provide simple compensation, excellent loop stability, and fast transient response. The A8650 utilizes external compensation to be compatible with a wide range of power elements to optimize transient response without compromising stability. The A8650 is adjustable from 2.5 to 5.5 V input voltages, providing output voltages as low as 0.8 V and load currents of at least 2.0 A.

Features of the A8650 include externally adjustable switching frequency, externally set soft-start time to minimize inrush current, EN/SYNC input to enable VOUT and/or synchronize PWM switching frequency, and a power supply operating (POK) output that indicates VOUT within the regulation range. The A8650 control circuit has a sleep mode current of less than 3 μA. Protection features include VIN Undervoltage Lockout (UVLO), Cycle-by-Cycle Overcurrent Protection (OCP), Hiccup Mode Short Circuit Protection (HIC), Over-Voltage Protection (OVP), and Over-Temperature Shutdown (TSD). In addition, the A8650 offers open and adjacent pin short-circuit protection, ground short-circuit protection for each pin, to meet the most demanding automotive applications.

The A8650 is available in a 10-pin MSOP package with an exposed heatsink for improved thermal functionality. The package is a lead-free (Pb) package with 100% matte tin plating on the pin frame.
