The ATS617 gear tooth sensor IC is a peak detection device that uses automatic gain control and integrated capacitors to provide highly accurate gear edge detection even at very low operating speeds. Each package includes a high-temperature, plastic enclosure that integrates samarium-cobalt magnets, pole pieces, and differentially split collector Hall ICs optimized for magnetic circuits. The small package can be easily assembled and used on gears of different shapes and sizes.
The technology used for this device is based on the Hall effect. The device combines a two-element Hall IC that switches and switches in response to a differential magnetic signal generated by a ferrite target. This complex processing circuit contains an A-to-D converter that self-calibrates (normalizes) the device's internal gain to minimize the effect of air-gap variations. The patented peak detection filter circuitry eliminates magnet and system offsets and distinguishes between relatively rapid changes such as tilt, gear swing, and eccentricity-induced changes. This easy-to-integrate solution provides first drop edge detection and provides stable operation at very low revolutions per minute. The ATS617 replaces the ATS616.
The ATS617 is ideal for systems that use gear tooth configurations to collect speed, position, and timing information. This device is particularly suitable for applications that require extremely precise duty cycle control or precise edge detection, such as automotive camshaft sensing.
The ATS617 is available in a 4-pin single-in-line package (SIP) that is lead-free and has a 100% matte tin plated pin frame.
