The BQ32000 device is an industry-standard real-time clock-compatible alternative.

The BQ32000 integrates a built-in automatic trickle charger backup power supply. Backup power can be implemented using a capacitive or non-rechargeable battery. The BQ32000 has programmable calibration adjustments from -63 ppm to 126 ppm. The bq32000 register includes a (oscillator failure) flag indicating the status of the RTC oscillator, as well as a stop bit that disables the oscillator on the host processor. Time registers are usually updated every second, and all registers are timed at the same time to prevent glitch updates. The BQ32000 also features automatic leap year compensation.
