The DAC-8248 is a dual-channel 12-bit dual-buffered CMOS digital-to-analog converter. The device has an 8-bit wide input data port that interfaces directly with the 8-bit microprocessor. Load a 12-bit data word in two bytes through a single control instruction; The minimum significant byte or maximum significant byte can be accepted first. For a 12-bit or 16-bit wide data path, select the DAC-8222 or DAC-8221.
The DAC-8248 features dual buffered digital inputs, allowing simultaneous updates of the analog outputs of both DACs. This is useful in multi-DAC systems where all DACs are updated simultaneously by sharing LDAC signals. Reset both outputs to zero at the same time via a RESET pin.
The DAC-8248 features a single-chip structure that provides good DAC-DAC matching and tracking capabilities over the entire operating temperature range. The DAC consists of two thin-film R-2R resistor trapezoidal networks, two 12-bit, two 8-bit, and 2 4-bit data registers and control logic circuitry. Independent reference input and feedback resistors are provided for each DAC. DAC8248 operates from a single supply of +5 V to +15 V and consumes less than 0.5 mW at +5 V (with zero or VDD logic levels). The device is available in a space-saving 0.3" 24-pin DIP package.
The DAC-8248 is based on an advanced oxide-isolated, silicon gate CMOS process made with PMI's highly stable thin-film resistors. The PMI improved anti-latch design eliminates the need for external protection Schottky diodes.
