With minimal additional circuitry, the three-wire serial digital input is easily interfaced with a microprocessor operating at 10 MHz. The address of each DAC is determined individually by a 16-bit serial word, which consists of a 12-bit data word and an address table header. User-Programmable Reset Control The CLR forces all four DACs to output zero or intermediate levels, asynchronously overwriting the current DAC register values. The user determines the output voltage range by setting the input VREFHI and VREFLO to achieve positive/negative unipolar or bipolar signal swing over the supply voltage range, providing great design flexibility.
DAC8420 is available in 16-pin PDIP, SOIC, and CERDIP packages with a power supply range of +5 V to ±15 V and a voltage reference range of +2.5 V to ±10 V. Power consumption is less than 255 mW (maximum) when powered from a ± 15 V supply; When powered from a +5 V supply, the power consumption is only 35 mW (maximum).
