The full-featured DP83848C is a single-port 10/100 physical layer device that offers low power consumption, including smart power in some countries. These low-power modes improve overall product reliability due to reduced power consumption. Support for multiple smart power modes allows applications to use absolute power for the minimum amount required for operation.

The DP83848C includes a 25MHz clock output. This means that applications can be designed with the least amount of external components in the lowest possible total cost solution, which in turn leads to a design.

The DP83848C is easily connected to an external transformer via twisted pair media. Both the Ministry of Information Industry and RMII support ensuring ease of use and design flexibility.

The functional integration of the sub-layer DP83848C supports both the 10BASE-T and 100Base-TX Ethernet protocols to ensure compatibility and interoperability with all other standard Ethernet solutions.

The DP83848C is necessary to provide a small form factor (48-pin LQFP) so that the board space is minimal.
